MOVING OUT OR STAYING ON

Don’t be rushed into making a decision! Some landlords or agents will ask if you want to stay for the following year within the first few weeks of moving in, but do not feel pressured into this. It’s important to give it time with your current housemates to see if you want to live with them for another year.

Don’t forget there is a surplus of good quality student accommodation in Birmingham so there is no need to rush.

PACKING UP YOUR STUFF? HAVE A CLEAR OUT AND RECYCLE
Information about waste collection and recycling can be found on the Birmingham City Council Website.

MOVING OUT BEFORE THE END OF YOUR CONTRACT
Most student contracts are be between 9 and 12 months.  This means you're liable to pay the rent for the length of time stated in your contract.  If you choose to leave before the end then you should inform your landlord/agent immediately.  You should then make every effort to find someone to replace you in the contract by advertising your room or house to others.  You can do this through ASH on our student message board.

GETTING YOUR DEPOSIT BACK
At the end of your tenancy your landlord will inform the Deposit Protection Scheme that the tenancy has come to an end and how much deposit they think should be returned to you. You will then have a choice to accept this or to dispute it through the Deposit Protection Scheme.
