Update on the results of the recent Emergency Union Council Vote on the Motion for an additional Student Officer

On Wednesday, 25th January, an Emergency Union Council was called to discuss the proposal of a 5th Student Officer role, Vice President Communities.

The Union Council was tasked to decide whether they were in favour of this motion or not by casting their vote.

Moreover, the voting period was carried out from Wednesday, 1st February at 1pm until Friday, 3rd February at 1pm. Students had the choice to vote: ‘yes’, ‘no’ or ‘I don’t know’.

There was a total of 227 votes which included:

  • 151 votes for ‘Yes’
  • 71 votes for ‘No’
  • 5 votes for ‘ I don’t know’

The choice with 50% or more votes would determine the outcome of the motion. Therefore, choice ‘yes’ received the majority votes for this motion.

The Students’ Union Trustee Board will now review the proposal and will further discuss whether they are in favour of the motion. This will determine whether the 5th Student Officer role is introduced or not.

More information on this vote will be communicated over the coming days.
