Aston Students’ Union has rocketed up the University’s Go Green League Table to reach the dizzy heights of 4th place.
This table ranks all University departments’ environmental performance based on their electricity consumption and Go Green Workbook points.
The SU achieved full points in the workbook, thanks in large part to their new Go Green Champions. Andrea John (Advice and Representation Centre) and Ed Robinson (Student Voice) were appointed last month, and have wasted no time in making positive, sustainable change around the Union.
They say that “everyone who works in the SU knows how important it is to raise awareness of sustainability and environmental issues – we are all responsible and must act responsibly. This is why our ‘hitting the ground running’ position has moved us up the league table so quickly.”
Andrea and Ed will now be joined by Ethel Ojo, who was recently elected as Sustainability Officer. Ethel says she is committed to working with her new colleagues to educate and inform students and staff about sustainability. She added that “we aim to keep the issue of sustainability at the forefront of our minds and, wherever possible, incorporate policies that will not only be beneficial to our general wellbeing but also to the environment”.
The team are currently focussing on improvements to the Union’s recycling, and hope to continue moving the SU up the Go Green League Table by working towards NUS Green Impact accreditation.
