Aston Gaming Society December 2021 recap bulletin

Hello and welcome to December’s monthly recap bulletin. I hope you all had a good holiday season and it was filled with festive activities with friends and family. My name is Morgan (Undwin) and I would like to, during the time of celebration, focus on the different achievements we have made during this month as a collective as individuals, and how they will affect society and our members going forwards.

The start of peaceful times with Aston Apes

One of the best things to come out of December for the Society was the signing of an agreement between Aston Gaming Society and Aston Apes Esports Society. We hope that this friendship can grow and we reflect on everything that has happened over the past year, we can look at this event as a great milestone for the things to come in our future together. The agreement was formed with the interest of our members at the front, we aim to give our members the greatest possible chance to compete in their favourite E-sport whilst also being able to represent their University under one unified banner.

The future looks very bright for us all and we would like to say a big thank you to all who helped make it possible.

Aston Apes Christmas Valorant Tournament

The largest event to happen this December was the highly publicised and prestigious Aston Winter Valorant Tournament. The tournament was a fun and engaging time for people of all skill levels, with all the teams being well balanced so every game was unpredictable and fun to watch! I would like to thank all who participated in the event as without you all the event would never have gone ahead and been such a success. Additionally a huge shout out to Jack for making the entire event possible in the first place, here is what he had to say when asked about it, “I am thankful for everybody who took part and incredibly proud of all the participants. I hope that for the next one we can grow beyond the heights of this competition!” Finally, a massive well done to the winners of the Tournament Team ZZZ (Bimsc, Lilnines, Shadow, Xeladowlle and AppleJoe), they all played exceptionally well and we look forward to having them back along with everybody else for the next one!

AGS continues to grow!

At the end of the year, we all like to take time to reflect on what has happened and it would be silly to ignore that we as a society have over doubled our membership since this time last year! We could not be more excited about this and, without all the support that you send regularly, we would be half the society we are in now. We aim to be constantly improving and refining what we are doing for you all. We have plenty of large events in the works for next year and we hope that we can keep getting better and better with more awesome prizes for our competitions and general awards. So a huge thank you for everything and here is to keep up the growth and improvements over the next year!

Review

It feels safe to say that December was a great month for us here in AGS. We have many new things to take forward and plenty to work on and build up to in the coming months. Lessons that have been learned and plenty of new event ideas have come from this month too. And so from all of us on the committee, we hope that you had a very restful holiday season and that you go out and smash the coming month of exams and coursework. Thank you for reading and see you in the next bulletin for more amazing AGS memories.
