Results of the Union Council Meeting (5th February 2026) 

On Thursday, 5th February 2026, Aston Students’ Union held a Union Council Meeting, where several key motions were discussed and voted on.


Motion 1: Introducing Self-Certified Deadline Extensions for Coursework at Aston University (UC2026.11)

This motion was presented by Gagan Mopuri and the Welfare Committee.

The motion calls for Aston Students’ Union to lobby the University to introduce self-certified deadline extensions for all Aston students, allowing students to self-certify without the need to provide evidence. Many universities already operate this system, and this proposal aims to ensure Aston is up to date with sector standards.

Following the voting period, the results were totalled.

Outcome: The motion passed.

In line with this motion, Aston Students’ Union will advocate for the University to introduce self-certified deadline extensions for all students
