BUCS Season Kicks Off — And Game Changer is Backing Our Athletes All the Way! 🏆
It’s that time of year again… 🥇 BUCS season officially starts today!
Aston’s athletes are ready to hit the courts, pitches, and pools — representing our University across the country with pride, passion, and serious determination.
BUCS (British Universities and Colleges Sport) is the national competition that brings universities together to compete in leagues and knockout tournaments across a huge range of sports — from football and netball to badminton and basketball.
This year, we’ve got 10 student clubs competing in BUCS Leagues and Knockouts, with a total of 20 team entries — one of our biggest and most exciting seasons yet!
But this year feels different.
Because behind every goal, basket, and serve, there’s a Game Changer at work.
What’s Game Changer Got to Do With It?
Earlier this term, Aston University invested a massive £100,000 into the Game Changer campaign — a joint project with Aston Students’ Union to transform student sport and wellbeing on campus.
This investment is helping to take BUCS sport at Aston to the next level by:
🏋️ Improving training and coaching — with new Strength & Conditioning equipment and better access to professional support.
💰 Providing fair funding for clubs, so every team has what they need to perform at their best.
⛑️ Keeping athletes safe through medical and first-aid support during matches.
🧢 Developing student leaders with funded coaching and officiating courses.
🏅 Recognising achievement with new awards and celebration events that put Aston sport in the spotlight.
In short, Game Changer is helping our teams play harder, recover better, and feel prouder than ever to wear the Aston badge.
Why This Matters
Sport at Aston isn’t just about competition — it’s about belonging, wellbeing, and community.
The Game Changer investment means our student-athletes have the tools, support, and confidence to succeed — on and off the field. It also helps make sport more inclusive and accessible, so every student can find a way to get involved, whether that’s through BUCS, social tournaments, or wellbeing sessions.

Over the coming months, you’ll see Game Changer in action across campus — from new equipment in training sessions to the Aston Cup that brings students together for some friendly competition.
