Welcome to Aston University's first ever Pro Bono Group!
Pro bono - literally meaning 'for the public good' in Latin - exists in the legal system to promote free, high-quality legal advice to those who would not otherwise be able to access it.
Aston Pro Bono Group – now in its 3rd year of operation – exists to promote pro bono in law in every facet, helping to uphold the rule of law by promoting the belief that everybody deserves access to justice. As a society, we hope to provide our members with regular updates in pro bono news; promoting pro bono projects, internships, and placement opportunities, as well as fundraising initiatives for Aston students to get involved! This will be done with a longer-term aim to help th Law Advice Clinic at Aston University, which provides free legal advice for the most vulnerable in society in light of recent dramatic cuts to legal services. With further opportunities for students to get involved through this, we hope to illuminate the importance of such legal services to those who cannot afford them by way of both professional events with pro bono representatives, networking sessions and more relaxed social events, especially in the run up to National Pro Bono Week in November 2019. Being part of Aston Pro Bono Group will provide an enriching opportunity for members to get involved with pro bono any way they can, providing an enhanced legal awareness which is much-coveted by graduate employers who see an interest in Pro Bono work as greatly important in any new potential employee.
Thank you for your interest and we look forward to meeting you at our next event!
