About The Green and Our History

The Green is an affordable student accommodation village set up by a student leader in the late 1970s with the first students moving in in 1980 and the official opening in 1981. The social housing village at The Green was funded by central Government and the properties were purchased from Birmingham City Council at an ultra discounted price.

The properties are owned by Midland Heart housing association and have been managed by Aston Students' Union since the first students moved in in 1980.

Our Community Society

All residents at The Green are members of the Community Society. The society provides benefits such as contents insurance for tenants and free launderette tokens.

The Society is led by Community Directors who listen to the views of residents and advocate and represent the interests of the residents.

The Community Society works with the management of The Green to organise social events such as BBQs, pumpkin carving and a Christmas celebration.
