What You Need to Know!

This section contains all the information that you need to know as a member of a Club or Society. The Committee of any Club or Society have responsibilities and obligations both to their members and how the Club or Society is run. Members have the right to expect the Club/Society to be well organised, inclusive, to deliver on its core purpose, and to use its resources for their benefit. Any member of a Club or Society is to abide by these rules set in place by the Students' Union.

AU Code of Conduct

A Club committee is directly responsible for the behaviour of its members. This applies to all situations when your Club is together as a group, be it in the Union, on minibuses or coaches, at University facilities or at any other external institution or facility. Similarly, neither the Union nor the University condones initiation events for new members/students and any Club found to be organising/running one will be immediately shut down. Misconduct of any kind will lead to disciplinary action, which can culminate in removing committee members from office, disbanding the Club as a whole and banning members from participating in any Union activity:

Societies Code of Conduct

The society committee is directly responsible for the behavior of its members. The purpose of the societies code of conduct is to ensure that members of all societies abide by the rules laid out. The following guidelines have been put in place to ensure the safety and well-being of all society members. Misconduct of any kind will lead to disciplinary action, which can culminate in removing committee members from office, disbanding the society as a whole and banning members from participating in any Union activity. The Students' Union expects that Societies take all reasonable steps to ensure that it and its members conduct themselves in a manner that does not reflect negatively on the Union/University and does not place any person in a situation where they are likely to be harmed:

Participation Agreement (Clubs)

As a member of a Sports Club, you are required to read and sign the participation agreement. As a Sports Club, you may need to alter the model agreement for it to reflect the specific activities that you will be doing. This will need to checked before by the Student Activities Team so it is appropriate to be used:

Constitution

A club/society constitution is compulsory: it is the document that determines your objectives, aims and operating procedures. As a member of a club/society you will be able to view these on their individual club/society page. Below is a model constitution that you should follow in order to create your own:

Athletic Union Membership

In order to join any of our Athletic Union clubs, students must pay a £15 athletic union fee. The below document is a report detailing what the £15 fee goes towards, and an explanation of how club funding works:
