The Board of Trustees

The Board of Trustees is responsible for making sure the Union delivers great services and opportunities for students at Aston, and that the SU stays true to its charitable objectives. At Aston our Board is made up of a mix of students, officers, alumni, independent and university- appointed Trustees. This broad and diverse mix of experience and background ensures the diverse mature of Aston’s membership is always at the forefront of decisions

The Board’s role is to oversee the work of the organisation and set the strategic direction. As a general rule, the Board does not get involved in the political or policy setting side of the union. That is led by the students and officers through our Union Council and our Elected Offices.

Trustees also do not get involved in the day to day running of Aston; that is left to managers and staff and our student officers.

THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE

Fourteen students are picked as committee members each year by cross-campus elections to represent the student body. Their official titles are ‘Executive Officers’ and they represent a particular area of the student population, or carry out a particular responsibility. Four Executive Officers are full time employees of the Students’ Union for one year, their responsibilities are detailed below. The remaining eight committee positions are filled by current Aston students who take on the roles part time alongside their studies.
