“I choose to take part in Choose A Challenge because not only did I want to challenge myself mentally, physically and emotionally, I wanted to do it for a good cause.”

Meningitis is a disease which can affect anyone who has not been vaccinated against it. Once you have been vaccinated, you cannot contract or pass on the disease, it is that simple. Yet, young adults, specifically university students are the second largest at-risk group who are affected by this. Not only can Meningitis cause loss of limbs, but it can also result in death. There is a simple remedy, a vaccination.

“The lack of knowledge and awareness amongst the public is small, I choose to raise money for Meningitis Research Foundation because I could possibly make a difference in someone's life by raising essential money, which could ultimately raise some much-needed awareness.”

Such a great experience had its own impact on Sharan’s personal development:

“I did push myself on a mental, physical and emotional level, however, I didn't think I would have had this much of a transformation. I graduated in Summer 2018 and planned to do a gap year before I went into the world-of-work. At university, I was the President of two societies, and an active member of a couple of others. I was always keeping myself busy and making the most out of every opportunity. Then, knowing that when September would come around, I didn't know what I'd be doing... that petrified me.
I couldn't help but compare myself to my friends who were in Grad jobs. But then I climbed Kili and everything changed. I have never, EVER, done anything this challenging before. I have been through some difficult times at university, but nothing that I have ever achieved in my life will ever compare to climbing Mount Kilimanjaro.
I can confidently say that I am not afraid of what life may have in store for me, because, climbing Kili taught me that a strong and positive mindset can see you through anything. Climbing Kili was the toughest thing I've ever done, but was easily the most rewarding thing I have ever done!”

We would like to thank Sharan for spending her time sharing this incredibly inspiring and motivational story with us and hope her experience will encourage others to be brave and make the most out of every opportunity!
