Your President

Welcome to Aston

My name is Amna Atteeq and I am your Students' Union President for the 2018-19 Academic Year. I am also extremely honoured and excited to be able to represent all Aston students for another year! WooHoo!!!

As your President I will be leading and supporting my fellow officers so that together we will bring changes that benefit your experience. Working together as a collective group of students is how we can improve our experience and acheive for you.

What does my job entail? Well I attend a lot of University committee meetings, board, working groups representing your views, ideas and ambitions. This includes University Council which is the highest decision making body at Aston. In addition to these committments I will be working to acheive my manifesto pledges.

Just like last year, I only got elected to represent your views and to ensure you have a great time at Aston University. Get in touch via my social media accounts or just drop me an email if you have an idea, or just want to chat.

Ensuring the Union works for you

What I'm Working On

Mon 08 Oct 2018

Our students always complain by the increase in the catering costs in the University Cafe, therefore I will be lobbying the University to reduce catering costs across the campus.

What is your favourite motivational quote?

"Better three hours too soon than a minute too late"

William Shakespeare

Tell us a fun fact about yourself

I can juggle but currently I am addicted to Fornite a lot. I will soon be one of the top players (let me dream).

If you had a spirit animal. What would it be and why?

My spirit animal would be a panda… because they’re so adorable firstly and they symbolise peace and positive thoughts. I think I could get away with being a panda since I love giving and receiving hugs?

What is your favourite book, movie or TV show?

Book: Wuthering Heights - Novel by Emily Brontë

Movie: Taare Zameen Par… It’s a Bollywood movie which focuses on a student who has dyslexia (Really emotional)

TV Show: NCIS… I’m into my crime shows

If you could have a meal with someone dead or alive who would it be and why?

Malala Yousafzai – I think she’s such an inspiration to the world of education! I just would love to be in her presence and get an opportunity to learn from her.

If you could change one thing this year what would it be?

I’m not looking to change one thing… I want to bring as many changes as possible to make the student experience amazing at Aston! I just want our students to be happy with the union, and be part of our family.

Why did you stand to be an Officer?

Previously I was your Vice President Education, and I can honestly say I enjoyed representing students and bringing in change to have a positive impact on your experience at Aston. That feeling motivated me to run again, but this time as your President and I’m grateful to all those students who had faith in me and elected me again. Thank you so much! I wouldn’t be here without your support.

What are your top three tips for someone starting at Aston?

  1. Never be afraid to talk to anyone! Talk to as many people as you want, get to know your staff members it will help you a lot.
  2. Engage with the union! Your Student Union will come in handy during your time at Aston. Join a club or society so it can go on your HEAR (Higher Education Achievement Report) so you’re more employable!
  3. Talk to your officers (us) tell us what we can do for you! We are elected to represent you. Come to us with your problems and we can help you or guide you to the right person.
