Aston Students’ Union Achieves Prestigious 'Quality Students’ Union' Status
Birmingham, 26th September 2024 — Aston Students’ Union (Aston SU) is proud to announce that it has been awarded the prestigious ‘Quality Students’ Union’ status by the National Union of Students (NUS), recognising its commitment to delivering exceptional services and support to students.
The ‘Quality Students’ Union’ framework is a rigorous assessment tool developed by the NUS to evaluate and support Students’ Unions across the UK. The framework sets high standards in 12 key areas of operation, ensuring that Students’ Unions are effectively representing and supporting their student communities.
Aston SU was assessed against the following 12 descriptors, which are vital to a successful and high-impact Students’ Union:
- Strategy: The Union’s long-term goals and objectives in service of students.
- Relationships and Partnerships: Collaborations with the university, external partners, and the local community.
- Governance: Transparent and accountable decision-making processes.
- Democracy: Ensuring students have a voice and are actively involved in decision-making.
- People: Support for staff and volunteers to develop their skills and deliver excellent service.
- Leadership, Equality, Diversity & Inclusion (LEDI): Fostering an inclusive environment where all students feel valued and represented.
- Communication: Effective and accessible communication with students.
- Services: Providing relevant, high-quality services that meet the needs of students.
- Participation: Encouraging students to engage in Union activities and events.
- Representation and Campaigns: Advocating for student interests and leading impactful campaigns.
- Sustainability: Commitment to environmental and financial sustainability.
- Insight and Learning: Using data and feedback to continuously improve.
Achieving the ‘Quality Students’ Union’ status is a significant milestone for Aston SU. It reflects the hard work, dedication, and passion of our team in creating a vibrant and supportive student experience.
