Newsletter Week 11




We’re now well into Week 10, and everyone’s getting ready for the festive season...Yay!

Here at the Union, we’re planning loads of exciting events! Our Student Activities Christmas Dinner is next Friday, followed by the Skint Christmas Special! Alice (VPW) and I are planning our Safe Taxi campaign with the other Birmingham Unions, and tickets for AU Ball go on sale midday on Friday!

As ever, we’re more than happy to see you all, so drop in to come and say hi. Stay safe, wrap up warm and continue working hard. If you’re heading to the German Christmas Market click here to watch my trip and get some top tips!

Aston LGBT+ is back with the legendary CHRISTMAS BAR CRAWL!!

In support of World Aids Day, all proceeds are going to the Terrence Higgins Trust, a charity that campaigns on and provides services relating to HIV and sexual health. 

Thursday 30th November 2017. Starting at B4|Bar (in the Students Union) 7:30 PM.


We invite you along to Aston Music Society's Christmas Concert 2017! Come along to hear some festive favourites performed by Big Band, Choir, and Orchestra, alongside some talented soloists and smaller ensembles.

Festive refreshments will be provided.

Viewings of the accommodation at Aston Brook Green, just 10 minutes walk from campus, have been arranged for Wed 6 Dec.   Just meet on the Union steps at 1300hrs and we’ll take you there to show you a flat and answer your questions.

President: This week I represented the SU at University Council. Some exciting ideas were being thrown around, so keep a lookout for some big changes!

 VPW: Working alongside Amna (VPE) and the university mentoring scheme staff we finally launched our buddy scheme for international students!

VPSA: The SA Christmas party is right around the corner and tickets are selling fast. Make sure you get yours quick!  

VPE: I’m looking into dissertation costs and other project costs at Aston University. I will be doing a survey soon, to raise the issue of hidden costs with the university. #CutTHECosts



We’re looking for students for a focus group on your experiences using private hire and black cabs (not just Uber)! If interested, please email: We will email you the location closer to the date!

One of the most memorable nights the Union puts together, when all of the clubs come together and celebrate their achievements from this year. This annual ball is an event not to be missed! Tickets are available this Friday from midday but be quick, as these tickets always sell FAST!

Feeding the World is a fantastic place on Corporation Street in Birmingham where you can get freshly cooked food and drinks in exchange for a donation.

From 11am until 6pm Monday to Friday, and in the evenings from 5-7pm, they serve the homeless with freshly cooked food using the money they raise from donations during the day!

Spread the word about this fantastic organisation!


This year, rather than making up shoeboxes/gift bags we will be allowing
each person to make up their own gift bag by choosing from a variety of
items plus one Christmas gift. If you would like to help we are now collecting
the following items for distribution in December:

Jeans/Joggers ~ Jumpers/sweatshirts/hoodies ~ Coats ~ Trainers/Boots ~ Hats ~ Gloves 

And many more.
