Newsletter Week 5

We're heading toward Week 5 and I’m sure you will all be very busy studying, completing assignments, taking tests and maintaining your busy social lives.

University is a CHALLENGE with many long days and nights, dreaded deadlines and the never-ending problem of constand tiredness. But this challenge is an OPPORTUNITY that you can take! Make the most of it by signing up to one of our 60+ societies or 40+ clubs, get yourself a part-time job, volunteer for a charity and immerse yourself in things that tickle your fancy. By taking on an opportunity, this leads to TRANSFORMATION. Now, this isn’t the transformation of you turning into a mythical creature, but a skilled Superman/woman that will stand out amongst other candidates in job interviews.

Push your boundaries, stay safe but live your University years to the fullest.

Lots of SU President love, Reema x

President: This week, myself, max the CEO and the sabbatical team hosted the Student Union Chit Chat! We had students and representatives from clubs and societies that gave us their feedback on Union matters and past events alongside Freshers’ week.

VPW: This week I’ve been working with our volunteering working group to find the best way to get students to make the most of their student experience!

VPSA: I am currently preparing the Societies Ball, making sure it is the best one to date!

VPE: I have been preparing for Appreciating Islam Week with an extra focus on Islamophobia.

Year 2 and Final Year students will hear from influential speakers offering a global perspective on how the future labour market is developing and understand how they can adapt and thrive in their future careers. The Aston Accelerator will be made up of many different events throughout the week to provide the students with different workshops to hone and develop their personal skills.

Aston Students’ Union is holding its first ever Societies Ball!! It is a night to celebrate the success of our societies, and the achievements of Aston University students.

It is our opportunity to thank you for the sense of community that you create at Aston, as you come together for a night to wine and dine, reflect and relax.

Applications for accommodation at Aston Brook Green will open at the Housing Fair, to be held in the Students’ Union on 22nd November.

Probably the best-kept housing secret at the University, Aston Brook Green is less than 10 minutes walk from Campus and managed by your Students’ Union.   With rents of less than £60.00 p.w. for a room in a shared flat and about £100 per week for rooms in a self-contained one-bedroom flat, this has to be the cheapest accommodation you will find within a mile of campus.

The aim of Junior University is to raise aspirations of school students who might not have considered going to university before.

University isn’t for everyone, but often young people who do not have a lot of friends and family who have been to university do not have access to the information they need to make an informed decision about their future.

The Environment Team are looking for keen Go Green student volunteers to help with environmental campaigns this year! We would like our Go Green volunteers to run a campaign to tackle the issue of disposable cups at Aston Uni and promoting the reusable mug to both staff and students. As well as running your own campaign, you will also have the opportunity to plan and run your own event during Go Green Week in March. This is a great chance to use your creative skills to make a real difference at Aston! Please contact if you’re interested.

Interested in mental health? We are looking for a committee to run Student Minds for Aston. Student Minds are a student mental health charity that works with over 30 universities over the UK. Their aim is to provide support on a variety of student-specific areas, from eating disorders, student finance, exam stress and even just living abroad for the first time. The charity and the Students’ Union will help the committee to run campaigns and events, and if this is something you’re interested in or would just like to find out more, drop Alice an email:
