Much SU President love, Reema

SABBATICAL OFFICER UPDATES:

President: This week I had the most exciting opportunity of meeting the Lord Mayor of Birmingham. It was great to see how keen she was in listening to all of the Presidents from around the city regarding issues such as student safety, development, the Commonwealth games and much more.

VPW: This week I went to the NUS zone conference, where many of the SU's gathered together to discuss student issues and how we are looking to solve them.

VPSA: The re-freshers fair has been my main priority the week as finding the right clubs/societies for people who missed out last time is one of my goals

VPE: I have been conducting and organising rep training this week to ensure that the reps have the tools needed to conduct their role appropriately.

STAND OUT WEEK

Next week, we are hosting a number of events to coincide with the Aston Accelerator. The SU will be highlighting students who have gone on to do great things after university and how getting involved with extracurricular activities can benefit your future, whether that be starting your own business, getting your dream graduate job or a part-time job while studying at university. So, keep an eye out for later this week for more information.

UNION COUNCIL

The first Union Council is fast approaching and we are looking for people like you to represent and be the voice of Aston SU. The first council will be held on Monday 6th November (4-6) at the Susan Cadbury Lecture Theatre.

What is Union Council? It is the main decision-making body in your Students’ Union and has the power to pass policy, hold your officers to account and help direct the Students’ Unions.

How can I get involved? All you need to do is visit the council page (link below) and nominate yourself to be a councillor by clicking ‘Stand in Election’

Why should I be interested? Well as little as 50 councillors can make decisions that can affect 14,000 students at Aston and can have an impact on clubs and societies.
