Newsletter Week 7

We are in your reading week! From the experience of being a student, I know 99% of you will be using reading week to catch up on lectures/revision/reading/tests/placement applications and more. That’s fine and I’m glad you're using your time well, but don’t forget it is Aston Accelerator week. A week of gaining skills, knowledge and advice for your future in terms of careers and boosting your CV, which all leads to improving yourselves as people.

Alice, our VPW, is all things Movember which is something you can donate any amount to – little or big so click here to donate. Our VPE, Amna is leading Appreciate Islam Week where you can learn everything about Islam and support your friends… click here for more details. Finally, we have our FIRST Union Council so please please attend and voice what you believe in.

Keep hydrated, eat well and continue enjoying the student life!

Lots of SU President love, Reema

President: This week I had the most exciting time SCARING some of the employees here at the SU! Please watch THIS video to see what happened??

VPW: This week I have prepared an update presentation that I will be speaking on during the upcoming union council meeting.

VPSA: Societies Week is just around the corner, and I have been planning out different events to make sure it is a week you don't forget!

VPE: This week I have been preparing for the upcoming union Senate, where you students have a chance to speak about what you feel has gone right and wrong with your course so far.

This week we are hosting a number of events to coincide with the Aston Accelerator. The SU has been highlighting students who have gone on to do great things after university and how getting involved with extracurricular activities can benefit your future, whether that be starting your own business, getting your dream graduate job or a part-time job while studying at university. So keep an eye out for later this week for more information.

For November this year, we want as many Aston students pledging to grow their upper lip fuzz, maybe even a moustaches if you can, and raise some money to support the Movember Foundation. We are confident that together we can raise £500 to support the initiative to stop men dying prematurely from testicular cancer, prostate cancer and mental health.

If you are interested then you can found out more and pledge by clicking here. You can also try our BuzzFeed quiz to see what Mo you can grow (click here) or join our justgiving team by clicking here.

The first Union Council is fast approaching and we are looking for people like you to represent and be the voice of Aston SU. The first council will be held on Monday 6th November (4-6pm) at the Susan Cadbury Lecture Theatre.

What is Union Council? It is the main decision-making body in your Students’ Union and has the power to pass policy, hold your officers to account and help direct the Students’ Union.

How can I get involved? All you need to do is visit the council page (link below) and nominate yourself to be a councillor by clicking ‘Stand in Election’

Why should I be interested? Well, as little as 50 councillors can make decisions that can affect 14,000 students at Aston and can have an impact on clubs and societies.

You can find the agenda and read the papers here:
