Student Switch Off

The Student Switch Off is a not-for-profit campaign that encourages students to reduce their environmental impact when living in halls of residence.

Since it began in 2006/07 the campaign has reached over 1 million students living in halls of residence, saved over £2.5 million in electricity expenditure and kept over 20,000 tonnes of CO2 out of the atmosphere – all achieved by students adopting pro-environmental habits!

The campaign focuses on fun competitions between halls of residence/colleges where the greenest halls/college on each campus are rewarded with Ben & Jerry’s! It currently runs at over 40 institutions across Europe reaching over 130,000 students and reducing electricity consumption by an average of over 6 per cent.
