What do ENTS do?

We maintain and use all of the lighting and sound systems present in ASU; we are a society like yourselves. We can hire out our equipment to you or we can set up and operate it. We can also provide services for external venues. Some of you may have used our services before but there have been some changes. Please read the details below, which should hopefully make things clearer. If you have any questions or queries, my contact details are at the bottom of the page.

Cost of one crew member for a 24 hour period:

  • Less than 4 hours = £15
  • 4 - 8 hours = £25
  • 8 - 12 hours = £35
  • 12+ hours = £50 

Before an event, you will be sent a personalised email for that event, with a breakdown of all costs.

Cost of hiring equipment in:

Any equipment which will need to be hired in needs to be raised with the Technical Coordinator as soon as possible so we have time for it to be sourced. The cost of this will depend on how much the external companies charge.

Areas Entertainment crew members are responsible for:

  • We will be responsible for all of the technical equipment.  It is not our job to put chairs out, clean the stage, empty bins or clean up. If your event requires chairs then please arrange this with George Dowding (g.w.dowding@aston.ac.uk)
  • We hold no responsibility for any external equipment or personal property left on the stage. If you need to leave equipment on the stage, you must obtain prior permission from the TC.
  • The stage curtains have been damaged several times recently through misuse, and ENTS keep having to repair them. Therefore, only ENTS Crew can now operate the curtains. When there is no event in the hall, the curtains will always be kept closed.

Terms and conditions:

  • Less than 48 hours notice of the event will not guarantee crew or equipment will be available.  
  • Less than 24 hours notice of the event will incur an extra £50 charge.
  • Any damages or loss of equipment will be the club/society's responsibility 
  • Any costs for replacement or repairs will be charged to the club/society 
  • The cost to hire any equipment whilst the replacement is being sourced/repaired will be charged to the club/society .
  • Ents reserve the right to cancel an event.
  • Any form of abuse towards crew will cause the event to be terminated and the society will still be charged for any costs.
  • A member of a club/society's committee must be present and sober for the entirety of the event. If a committee member is not present/available, the Technical coordinator must be informed of this before the event starts.
  • If there isn't a club/society committee member present/ sober, then decisions fall to the Technical Coordinator.
  • All information required for an event (e.g. running order,) must be given to the Technical Coordinator no later than 2 hours before the event starts.
  • Number of crew members for events is at the discretion of the Technical Coordinator.
  • Any major change in an event (e.g opening and closing times) will be decided between Head of Security, Bar Manager, Technical Coordinator (2 out of 3 need to agree).
